The fine amount will be based on the violation and the implications of damage caused to the environment and recurrence rate.

Fines range starts from Dirhams 1,000 to Dh1 million and have been announced for environment violations in Abu Dhabi.

The fine amount will depend on the violation and the extent of damages effected to the environment and recurrence rate.

Violations have been classified into three categories:

  1. development and industrial
  2. hunting, biodiversity and reserves
  3. fishing and discharge in marine environment.
The value of each fine is increased for the repeat of violations.

This is being implemented as Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD), issued a new resolution.

The new law covers all practices that harm the environment which are not included in the currently applicable regulations.

The resolution provides EAD with a legal tool that gives powers to the inspectors to implement the list of administrative violations and fines to facilities, projects and individuals directly. This will reduce the number of court and judicial referrals for environmental violations.

The EAD make use of the advanced smart electronic tools and systems to perform the environmental inspections & ensure the compliance and commitment of the licensed projects and facilities with the requirements. Same like this, EAD is also tasked with evaluating the risks & enhancing the implementation of the integrated environmental commitment system.
