Sharjah paid parking will resume from Wednesday, July 1
The Sharjah Municipality has announced that the parking fees collection will resume in the city from July 1.

Vehicles were exempted from paying parking fees for a period of 3 months from April 1, based on the decision issued by the Sharjah Executive Council.

Khalid bin Falah Al Suwaidi, assistant director-general for the customer service sector at the municipality, said the municipality provided 40,000 parking spaces for free to residents as part of the exemptions and facilities package approved by the government to support residents and citizens during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The civic body's inspection teams continued to ensure the commitment to proper parking and prevention of parking space abuses, such as blocking cars or using more than one space. The municipality is keen to provide the best parking services to residents," he added.

Al Suwaidi explained that the municipality will collect parking fees for these 40,000 spaces starting from July 1, coinciding with the reopening of the economic and tourism sectors. The reopening of businesses requires provision of public parking at all times.

Abu Dhabi also had announced that normal parking fees will be applicable in the emirate from July 1 after a three-month exemption announced in March in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prepaid parking card holders compensated

Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, director of the Public Parking Department at the municipality, said that the civic body will compensate the subscribers who hold long-term parking cards.

The customers whose subscriptions end on or after July 1 will be compensated by adding three additional months to the expiry date. The subscriptions ending before July 1 will be given a free-parking period for the remaining period of subscriptions from April 1.

He added that the municipality has compensated a total of 11,643 subscribers and text messages will be sent to inform them about the extension of their parking card subscription and the new expiry date.
